Mă-Kè Bonsai Videos
Sooner or later you will want to grow your Bonsai Collection, and growing them your self can be a very rewarding and inexpensive way of doing so. This video show you how to grow them from cuttings.
My name is Mark D'Cruz. I'm going to talk to you about growing bonsais from cuttings. There are effectively three kinds of cuttings. Softwood cuttings, semi hardwood and hardwood cuttings. The hardwood cuttings are absolutely without leaves and usually done in our Winter. Semi hardwoods can be done towards late Summer and early Summer. Softwood cuttings usually taken towards the end of Spring all the way to middle to late Summer. You have a cutting that is between four and six inches long. You remove the leaves, and once you've got the last two leaves left, it's ready for planting. This is a Ficus Retusa and then we have the Serissa Foetida. It's a beautiful tree, it has lots and lots of flowers and it's another tropical tree that can be grown all throughout the year. You'll recognise the cuttings are ready by looking at the roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot. And when they're ready to pot on, you move them onto a different pot and then they can grow by themselves for about two years in an individual pot. There are two types of rooting hormones which is a powder based and there is a liquid based, Clonex, which helps with rooting. They are just growing hormones, vitamins, that help with, assist with rooting. music After that, you just carry on growing them from a 9 centimetre pot into a larger 12 centimetre pot, and then finally into a 15 centimetre pot or a two litre pot before they're ready for the bonsai garden. And that's how you grow bonsais from cuttings.
